First things first! We need to peel off the protective layer that comes on the acrylic sheet.

Acrylic sheets were used in this workshop so that they would get to everyone safely in the mail. If you’d like to try this at home, you can purchase any photo frame in the size you’d like, and use the glass that comes in the photo frame! You can also search for glass frame replacements, or even use acrylic sheets as well.

Next, one of the most important steps! Choose who you’d like to draw! Chuu~?

For this workshop, some of the KCON:TACT 3 performing artists line art was provided! Susie Kelly made all the line art herself, amazing right!? If you’d like to try this at home, you can create anything you’d like as long as you have a printer!

Pro tip – make sure to “FLIP” your image when printing! Glass painting requires painting your image from the back so that when you flip it, your image is facing the correct way.

Now let’s really begin the artistic process! Step 1 – place the print out  behind the clear acrylic sheet and tape it in place!!

Step 2 – Prep the black paint pen by shaking it and pressing gently down until the white tip is soaked in the black ink!

For this session we used an oil based paint pen marker. We would not recommend using a water based paint marker (it might chip off later)!

Step 3 – Carefully trace the outline of the artist onto the acrylic sheet. Once you’re done, make sure you let it dry for a couple of minutes!

Watch below for some paint pen marker *ASMR*

Step 4 – Get your colors ready! You can go for a more abstract color scheme, pastel, realistic, whatever you want! We recommend that you use acrylic paint.

Art Tip! If you want to make a color lighter, mix a little dab of the main color into the white (I.e. For pink add a dab of red into some white)!

Step 5 – Paint time! Make sure to paint in dabs so the color comes out clearly and not splotchy.

Pro Tip! If you can see through your paint from the front side, wait for your paint to dry and add another layer on top of it.

Watch the video below for some relaxing paint time as well as other paint tips from Susie!

Tada! All done! To display your new decoration, use any acrylic stand that fits the frame!

During the art session, attendees got to chat with one another and Susie! Someone asked Susie “Who’s your favorite idol to make art for?”

An attendee also asked if Susie had any recommendations for sealing paint on glass.

Also *PSA* Susie would like everyone to bless their ears and listen to TVXQ if you don’t know about them already!(:

Thanks again to all the attendees who joined us! If you plan on doing this at home, tag us @kconusa and @1919susie so we can see your art work!

Susie had so much fun teaching this art workshop and the attendees had so much fun learning and just chilling with fellow K-Pop fans! We really hope everyone enjoyed the zoom sessions we prepared for KCON:TACT 3 Countdown Week USA!
