KCON:TACT Early Bird & Membership Events Explained
Hi, This is your friendly #KCONLiveChat co-host, Vanessa. I'm here to take you through all of the KCON:TACT campaigns that have been teased and released via social over the past week. We may not be able to meet via video, but I shall do my best here. First off, we want to take a moment to acknowledge that the "membership events" are much more opaque than what we would present to you at a KCON event. If you've made it to this article, thank you for sticking with us and we're going to do our best to sort it out right here, right now. Below, we will explain the following: Early Bird campaigns: "KCON Wish" and "Exclusive Video Call" Membership campaigns: "Live KCON-ers" How to participate in all Early Bird & Membership events via Google Form. There will be other campaigns in the coming days and we will be sure to explain the entry for those events here on kconusa.com. Those explanatory articles may come after the initial social posts due to timezone differences. Finally, we also want to address one more thing and that is age restrictions. The only campaign which has an age restriction is "Live KCON-ers" and participants must have been born before June 20, 2000. This is due to international broadcast rules and the various definitions of the term "minor" from country to country. We will go through why that is in the "Live KCON-ers" section below. However, we want to say this clearly: Since all (3) campaigns are submitted on the same Google form and (1) campaign has an age restriction, we ask that if you are a minor that you mark "No" on the Y/N question, "I wish to participate in 1:1 live interactive with my favorite artist." You may of course participate in the other two events and fill out the form accordingly. HOW DO I EARLY BIRD? If you participated in the first KCON NY Early Bird you may already have notions of what a KCON:TACT Early Bird event would be like. However, this is very different from our KCONUSA Early Bird campaign just by the very fact that this is a virtual event. Here's what you need to know: Campaign Ends: June 10 11:59 PM KST // 7:59 AM PT Is the price different?: No. It is $19.99/mo. What are the benefits of Early Bird?: If you purchase your KCON:TACT membership early then you have the ability to take part in two campaigns that let you connect with some of your favorite K-Pop artists. We will go through those now Campaign #1: KCON Wish What is KCON Wish?: This is a chance for you to send a wish to your artist of choice as an Early Bird member. Why should I participate?: You can interact with an artist you love and see the wishes of fans like you (maybe even you!) come to life. Can anyone participate?: Yes. Why is there no age restriction?: Through this event fans only need submit their wishes on the form. There is no broadcast appearance component. What is the deadline to submit?: June 10 11:59 PM KST // 7:59 AM PT Campaign #2: Exclusive Video Call What is Exclusive Video Call?: Among the Early Bird members, fans will be randomly chosen to appear in an exclusive video call with an artist and a small group of fans. This is similar to our Diamond Backstage M&G at onsite KCON events. How is this different from "Live KCON-ers"?: For "Live KCON-ers," fans who are selected will be able to virtually ask their questions to the artists and appear on the actual broadcast. The "exclusive video call" is more intimate and is not broadcast as a part of KCON:TACT. Will this be shown on the broadcast of the "Concert + Meet & Greet" programs on the KCON:TACT stream?: No. Why should I participate?: This is a very rare chance to have a video call with an artist and, like our Diamond M&G, it's a very special, KCON-only benefit. Can anyone participate?: Yes. Why is there no age restriction?: This is not publicly broadcast so there is no age restriction. What is the deadline to submit?: June 10 11:59 PM KST // 7:59 AM PT WHAT ARE MEMBERSHIP EVENTS? These are events open to all members outside of the Early Bird events above. We will announce more soon, but we do want to discuss the "Live KCON-ers" event as its multiple names has understandably caused confusion. Campaign #3: Live KCON-ers AKA 1:1 Live Fan Interactive (+"Fan Recruitment") What is "Live KCON-ers?": Good question! This event lets fans submit questions to KCON:TACT lineup artists. Among the submissions, fans will be chosen to actually ask their questions live on air during the "Concert + Meet & Greet" program. That means you will actually be seen on the broadcast alongside the artist as you ask your question. This is something we've never done before and we hope it helps you feel like you're actually there! Because it is like a 1:1 question time between you and the artist and because we are actually recruiting fans to join this campaign we had three titles being used. Apologies. The official title is "Live KCON-ers." How is this different from "Exclusive Video Call" ?: They both involve a live video chat but the similarities end there. The exclusive video call will not be broadcast on the actual KCON:TACT stream. "Live KCON-ers" will be a part of the actual "Concert + Meet & Greet" program during the stream. Is this different from the "Meet & Greet"? Does this mean only fans who are "recruited" can see the Meet and Greet program?: Don't think of this as different from the "Meet & Greet" program--it will take place during that program as a segment. Hi, Since all the information has been coming out for KCON:TACT across a bunch of social channels–from KCONUSA to KCON Japan–and at all hours of the day and night, we wanted to take this moment to briefly go through membership, talk to you about the new KCON:TACT FAQ, and answer some questions we’ve received since the FAQ was posted. If you don’t see your question here, please note there are some that will show up with answers on the FAQ in the next day or two. WHAT DOES KCON:TACT MEMBERSHIP MEAN? To get started, since this is our first global, virtual event the means to access are very different than what we do for an onsite KCON. As many of you know, KCON’s concerts are broadcast in Korea as episodes of MNET’s “M COUNTDOWN.” So, for this virtual event, KCON:TACT will be broadcast via Mnet K-Pop’s YouTube channel. All access to KCON:TACT will be via membership on the Mnet K-Pop YouTube channel (unless you live in one of the countries noted below). This is very important to keep in mind because even if there were some less than above board feed on a dubious site, you will not be able to access any of the interactive elements that make this event KCON–like actually participating in Meet & Greets. Your membership is your KCON experience. One last note: If you go to the actual Mnet K-Pop page to join and become a member, the first thing you’re going to see is actually not a KCON:TACT membership but a “BEGINNER” membership to Mnet K-Pop YouTube. It’s awesome to have and there are really great emojis, but to access KCON:TACT you will need to purchase the $19.99 “KCON:TACT membership” on the Mnet K-Pop channel. Since it’s kind of a mouth full, we’ll be referring to it as a “KCON:TACT membership” from here on out. WHO IS COMING TO KCON:TACT? We’ll list up the 33-strong artist group lineup below. WHAT COMES WITH MY KCON:TACT MEMBERSHIP? We know that there’s been both a lot of information released alongside few details. There will be much more information released very soon (probably even directly after this article is published), but as of this exact moment, here’s what makes your KCON:TACT membership worthwhile: 7 Days of Live Concerts & Meet & Greets All members have access to all concerts and all meet and greet programming unless otherwise noted. One hour will be dedicated to each artist group and 4-5 artists will take the stage each day–so it’s basically like a massive live KCON concert stretched over 30 hours and seven days. This program block will air each day at 6 AM PDT // 9 AM EDT. We will release the daily lineup soon. Fan + Idol Virtual Interaction We know that for many of you KCON is the main place where you can actually meet your favorite idols–KCON:TACT will continue in that tradition. Through programs like Meet & Greet, you will be able to take part in live video chats and polls with artists. We’ll be releasing even more information on that over the next few days, so stick with us. KCON:TACT Original Series The currently announced programs include “Real Idol 24-hour” and “Backstage Behind.” “Real Idol 24-hour” follows a day in the life of idol groups, while “Backstage Behind” follows the happenings as the artists get ready to go on stage. There are 32 groups with over 200 artists participating in KCON and many of them are KCON first-timers so this is a chance to get to know artists you love and those you don’t love yet. Member-exclusive VOD Any programs released as VOD–200 fancams, concert and M&G replays, original series–will only be released to members. *Note: Production will take place in Mnet’s studio in Seoul and a portion of all proceeds will go to UNESCO’s Learning Never Stops campaign to help children impacted by COVID-19 around the world to continue their education.
